Ingredients

  • 2 cups precooked cornmeal (masarepa)
  • 2.5 cups warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions 

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, water, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  2. Let the dough rest for 5 minutes.
  3. Divide the dough into 8 equal parts and shape into patties.
  4. Heat the oil in a griddle or skillet over medium heat.
  5. Cook the arepas for about 5-7 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
