Ingredients

  • 1 lb Navy beans dried
  • ½ lb Salt pork cut into pieces
  • 1 cup Molasses
  • ½ cup Brown sugar packed
  • 1 tablespoon Dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 cups Water

Instructions 

  1. 1. Soak the navy beans in water overnight.
  2. 2. Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C).
  3. 3. Drain and rinse the beans. Place them in a Dutch oven.
  4. 4. Add the salt pork, molasses, brown sugar, dry mustard, salt, and pepper to the beans. Stir to combine.
  5. 5. Pour in the water, making sure the beans are covered.
  6. 6. Cover the Dutch oven and bake in the preheated oven for 8 hours, checking occasionally to ensure the beans are covered with water. Add more water if necessary.
  7. 7. Remove the lid for the last hour of baking to allow the beans to brown on top.
  8. 8. Serve hot.
