Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup chopped onions
  • ¼ cup peas optional

Instructions 

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a medium pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
  4. Stir in the turmeric and salt.
  5. Add the rice and stir to coat with the oil and spices.
  6. Pour in the water and bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
  8. If using peas, stir them in during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
  9. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
